In its continued efforts to support access to safe spaces and programs where children can play, The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation is partnering in a comprehensive research project with KABOOM!, Aspen Institute, and The Sports Facilities Companies to better understand the use of, and needs for, play spaces for youth in the Southeast Michigan and Western New York regions, with an emphasis on courts and fields.
This survey seeks to gain data from youth regarding their sports and recreational habits. We believe this data, which centers the voices of young people, is essential to inform future decisions and investments in youth sports & recreation across the community.
Aspen Institute Project Play’s State of Play Youth Survey collects the following information from young people in grades 3-12:
- Basic demographic information (grade, gender identity, race/ethnicity, physical disability status) without any personally identifiable information
- Current sport participation and interest in trying new sports
- Reasons for current levels of participation (e.g. reasons to play and perceived barriers)
- For youth participating in organized sport, reflections on their experiences
- The role of adults in a young person’s sport experience
The survey is administered via Resonant Education’s online platform and does not collect any personally identifiable information and complies with all data privacy requirements. Most importantly, students have the option to opt out of any questions they do not feel comfortable answering.
We encourage you to share this with kids within your networks. The deadline to complete the survey is February 28, 2023. Please anticipate dedicating 10-15 minutes to complete the survey. CLICK HERE to take the survey.
